Retired Homicide Detective. Accident Reconstruction Expert. Trial Attorney.

For more than three decades, Patrick J. McGeehan has investigated, analyzed, reconstructed, litigated, and tried some of the most serious criminal and motor vehicle cases in Florida.

Before becoming a lawyer, Patrick served as a police officer, field training officer, police instructor, accident reconstructionist, and homicide detective with the Miami-Dade Police Department. He investigated fatal traffic crashes, critical injury accidents, police-involved crashes, DUI-related fatalities, and death investigations. Today, he uses that experience to defend individuals accused of crimes and represent victims injured in serious motor vehicle accidents.

Few attorneys have seen the justice system from as many perspectives as Patrick J. McGeehan.

Fewer still have spent years investigating homicide cases before stepping into the courtroom as a trial attorney.

A Florida Native

Patrick was born in South Miami, Florida and spent much of his childhood growing up in South Florida.

After graduating from Miami Southridge Senior High School, he entered the workforce as an automotive mechanic. Like many working-class Floridians, he learned early that success comes through hard work, persistence, and personal responsibility.

Those values continue to shape his legal practice today.

From Police Officer to Homicide Detective

In 1987, Patrick began his law enforcement career with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

As a patrol officer, he responded to thousands of calls involving everything from routine incidents to violent crimes. Those years provided firsthand experience in how criminal investigations begin, how evidence is collected, and how cases are ultimately built for prosecution.

His investigative abilities eventually led to assignments involving specialized crash investigations and fatality cases.

In 1992, Patrick was assigned to the Traffic Homicide Unit, where he investigated fatal and critical injury motor vehicle crashes. He later became a member of the County Vehicle Crash Team, serving as the lead investigator in fatal and critical injury crashes involving Miami-Dade County vehicles.

These investigations required extensive work involving:

  • Fatal crash investigations
  • DUI-related fatalities
  • Witness interviews
  • Scene reconstruction
  • Vehicle examinations
  • Evidence collection
  • Court testimony
  • Case preparation for prosecutors

The experience provided an understanding of criminal investigations that cannot be learned from a textbook.

Certified Accident Reconstructionist

For more than twenty-five years, Patrick has worked as an accident reconstructionist and forensic crash investigator.

His training includes advanced accident reconstruction, collision prediction, pedestrian accident investigation, forensic mapping, forensic photography, vehicle dynamics, speed analysis, occupant kinematics, and traffic homicide investigation.

He has analyzed:

  • Automobile crashes
  • Motorcycle collisions
  • Truck accidents
  • Pedestrian fatalities
  • Bicycle accidents
  • Police pursuits
  • Emergency vehicle crashes
  • DUI-related collisions

Patrick has also been qualified as a court-certified expert witness in the fields of accident reconstruction, DUI investigation, crime scene analysis, and police speed measurement devices.

This technical background provides a unique advantage when handling both criminal and personal injury cases involving motor vehicles.

Teaching the People Who Enforce the Law

Patrick did not simply investigate cases.

He taught others how to investigate them.

During his law enforcement career, he served as a police instructor in numerous disciplines, including:

  • Traffic accident investigation
  • Traffic homicide investigation
  • DUI enforcement
  • Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
  • Radar and laser speed detection
  • Police driving
  • Emergency vehicle operations
  • Courtroom testimony
  • Crime scene reconstruction

He trained law enforcement officers in how to investigate cases, gather evidence, prepare reports, and testify in court.

Today, that same knowledge helps him identify weaknesses in police investigations and challenge evidence presented against his clients.

Academic Achievement

Patrick earned his Juris Doctor from the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University, where he received the Book Award in Criminal Pre-Trial Practice.

He previously graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and earned membership in both Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Phi Sigma honor societies.

His legal education focused heavily on:

  • Criminal defense
  • Trial advocacy
  • Family law
  • Administrative law
  • Employment law

Throughout his career, Patrick has remained committed to continuing education and professional development.

Trial Attorney and Criminal Defense Lawyer

As Senior Trial Attorney for Musca Law and through his own practice, he has represented clients accused of:

  • DUI
  • DUI Manslaughter
  • Vehicular Homicide
  • Drug Trafficking
  • Gun Crimes
  • Sex Crimes
  • Violent Crimes
  • White Collar Crimes
  • Serious Felony Offenses

His investigative background allows him to approach criminal defense cases differently than many attorneys.

He understands how police officers are trained.

He understands how evidence is collected.

Most importantly, he understands where investigations often go wrong.

Experience in High-Profile Cases

  • High-profile criminal investigations

His cases have generated coverage from local, regional, and national media outlets. He has appeared as an attorney and legal commentator in matters receiving attention from television, radio, print, and online media.

Most recently, Patrick has received significant media attention for his representation of Lindsey Isaacs in the highly publicized Volusia County triple-fatal crash case, where developments in the investigation generated widespread public discussion regarding the reliability of the underlying crash investigation.

Personal Injury Representation

Patrick also represents victims injured in serious motor vehicle accidents.

Unlike many personal injury attorneys, he personally understands the science behind crash investigations.

He has spent decades analyzing:

  • Speed calculations
  • Vehicle dynamics
  • Driver reaction times
  • Crash causation
  • Impact forces
  • Occupant movement
  • Roadway evidence

That background allows him to identify liability issues and challenge questionable conclusions reached by insurance companies and opposing experts.

Few personal injury attorneys possess this combination of investigative and technical expertise.

Firearms Law and Constitutional Rights

Patrick is an NRA-certified firearms instructor and has extensive experience handling firearms-related legal issues.

His practice includes representation in:

The Difference Experience Makes

Every lawyer has a law degree.

Very few have investigated homicides.

Very few have reconstructed fatal crashes.

Very few have taught police officers how to investigate crimes, conduct DUI investigations, operate radar and laser devices, and testify in court.

Patrick J. McGeehan has.

That experience can make a difference when your freedom, your reputation, your rights, or your financial future are on the line.

When experience matters, choose a lawyer who has spent a lifetime investigating facts, challenging assumptions, and fighting for the truth.

A Unique Advantage

Most attorneys learn about police investigations and accident reconstruction from reports and expert witnesses.

Patrick spent years conducting those investigations himself.

Having worked homicides, fatal traffic crashes, DUI investigations, and accident reconstructions from the inside, he understands how evidence is collected, how conclusions are reached, and where investigative mistakes can occur. This experience allows him to identify weaknesses, inconsistencies, and overlooked facts that others may miss.

Whether defending a person accused of a crime or representing a victim injured in a serious crash, Patrick approaches every case as an investigator first and a lawyer second.

Why Patrick’s Background Is Different

Most attorneys learn about police investigations from reports.

Patrick conducted those investigations.

Most attorneys learn accident reconstruction from expert witnesses.

Patrick reconstructed fatal crashes himself.

Most attorneys learn courtroom testimony from law school.

Patrick taught police officers how to testify in court.

This combination of investigative, technical, and legal experience is exceptionally rare and provides clients with a perspective few attorneys can offer.

Extensive Experience in Vehicle and Truck Accident Cases

Patrick’s background as a traffic homicide investigator provides a unique perspective in personal injury and wrongful death cases involving serious vehicle collisions.

He has extensive experience analyzing:

  • Automobile accidents
  • Commercial truck accidents
  • Tractor-trailer crashes
  • Commercial vehicle collisions
  • Motorcycle accidents
  • Pedestrian accidents
  • Wrongful death claims
  • DUI-related crashes
  • Catastrophic injury cases
  • Accident reconstruction evidence

Unlike many personal injury attorneys who rely entirely upon outside experts, Patrick understands the investigative process firsthand and is uniquely positioned to identify critical issues involving liability, vehicle dynamics, speed analysis, driver conduct, roadway conditions, and crash causation.

In addition to his litigation practice, Patrick has taught and mentored future lawyers. He has served as a Florida Bar Examination instructor at Nova Southeastern University and has taught legal subjects at the university level.

His commitment to legal education reflects the same attention to detail and dedication that he brings to every client matter.

A Commitment to Results

Patrick believes that every case begins with one question:

What really happened?

Whether representing someone accused of a crime or helping an injured victim recover after a serious accident, he is committed to uncovering the facts, challenging assumptions, and fighting for the best possible outcome.

His philosophy remains simple:

Know the facts better than anyone else in the courtroom.

That philosophy has guided his work as a police officer, homicide detective, accident investigator, educator, and trial lawyer for more than three decades.
